Jelly Flowers?

PicturePurple Jelly Flower (detail) 60x48
I have been obsessed with the spring flowers coming alive out there this time of year. Flowers and plants are living beings, true.  Very often though, to me, I see an other-worldly relationship to the animal world.

This piece to the left is my current project, Purple Jelly Flower, which is a project that I can't seem to finish. I started this series over the winter with my piece titled "Jelly Cone Flower" which was inspired by gorgeous array of yellow cone flowers and this other-worldy attitude took over. For me, the drips liken to the tentacles on a Jelly fish... so I ran with it with this large canvas of purple cone flowers. I've used my acrylic mediums to try to create that jelly texture and now I am at a crossroads, do I take it further into this other realm or do I call it finished?

Picturehelp me identify this flower?
These little yellow lovelies, whose name I am ashamed to say that I don't know, are the current inspiration for my next semi-literal piece. They seem to dash and dive with their long elegant tails like little alien critters.

I admit that I have always seen a kind of hyper real, perhaps otherwise known as surreal, world and these plants and trees I've been painting of late are evidence of my view.

For those of you who have been asking about my other more abstract works, they are coming! I have several canvases going right now and hope to debut a few new pieces at the upcoming Open Studios on Friday, June 7! Come on down! Ping me on the contact page if you need the address.

Those yellow beauties are colombines, K. They come in many different colors, are Spring things, and I, too, ;ove their spidery beauty. Want some seeds? They grow in my front yard. Hugs.

All of my life, from my earliest memories as I child, I have felt as though I view the world through some sort of magical frame. To this day I carry that feeling, as though I can look anywhere and see beauty, see nature and objects sparking. Even in a garbage-strewn alley, I can see the poetry of the place, as a breathing image right there on the lenses of my eyes.
